Phoenix is an amazing place full of spectacular attractions. A popular attraction is Camelback Mountain. It is a mountain in Phoenix, Arizona. The name comes from its shape, which resembles the two humps and head of a bactrian camel lying prone. The mountain, a glorious landmark for the metropolitan Phoenix valley, is located in the Camelback Mountain Echo Canyon Recreation Area between the Arcadia neighborhood of Phoenix and the town of Paradise Valley. It is a sought after recreation destination for hiking and rock climbing. The mountain is made of a geologic unconformity between two separate rock formations. The higher part of the peak is composed of Precambrian granite. The head of the camel is mostly red sedimentary sandstone from the Tertiary period. Two hiking trails ascend nearly 1300 feet to the peak of Camelback Mountain. The Echo Canyon Trail and the Cholla Trail are the two trails. Both trails are arduous with steep grades. The hiking path has dirt, gravel, boulders, and certain handrail-assisted sections. The Praying Monk is a red sandstone rock formation sought after for rock climbing. Located on the northern slope, the formation looks like the silhouette of a man kneeling in prayer. Learn more about Phoenix through Phoenix Homes.
